I have an Acer Aspire E15, and it has a single jack. Im not sure if its a combo jack, but whenever I plug something in it gives me options such as Line In/ Mic In/ Headphone/ etc. So I have this audio splitter (2 female to male), and I plugged in my headphones in the audio output, and a dedicated mic I have into the input jack. But whenever the options for which device I plugged in, none of the options seem to work. I get output, but I never get any input from my mic. Is there something i can do? The only other time i get any input is when I have it set to speaker or headphone, but that uses the external mic on the laptop.

Remember what ever Mic, or combined headset and mic you use by connecting the playback out put, and the mic input to the laptop you are using you will have to select the default playback and recording device in windows.

So for recording or using the mic you will need to right click on the speaker icon next to the time of windows desktop.
And select the mic as the default recording device.

And tweak the advanced recording settings for the mic such as noise cancellation and mic gain.
To get the mic to record.

To test the mic is working select listen to what is playing option of windows sound manager.
