So I recently bought an MSI rx480 and there have been some issues. When I got it it started up fine but after I installed drivers it seemed to mess the display up making it freeze and have squares all across the screen. The display would blank out a few times then the computer just restarts. I made sure all the cables were plugged and it worked for a while but went back to how it was the next day. Any suggestions would be appreciated.

Hardware:
AMD FX-6300 3.5GHz 6-Core Processor
Gigabyte GA-970A-D3P ATX AM3+/AM3 Motherboard
Crucial Ballistix Sport 8GB (1 x 8GB) DDR3-1600 Memory
Cx-500 500 watt psu
MSI Radeon RX 480 4GB GAMING X Video Card

Solution
Have a check of the RX 480 graphics card.

If it uses a six pin 12v Pci-e power connector to the card.
And you used or installed the RX 480 video card driver from the supplied dvd disk that came with it.

Un install the driver Jack.

Got to www.Amd.com

And get the latest release of the video card driver for the RX 480 card.
Download it, then install it on you system.

After installing restart the system to allow full setup and configuration of the driver for your RX 480 card.

See if it fixes the problem you are having.

Amd had to release a new video driver due to old ones not being able to configure the amount of power the card required to run stable Jack.

The cards would black screen, or you would see colored squares displayed...

While you there with the side of the case open make sure the 12v Eps or E-ATX power block of eight pis wide is connected to the motherboard directly fro the power supply unit you have in the system Jack.

All eight pins of the block must be connected or you will experience roughly the same symptoms if not fully connected.
The block can be located near or around the cpu socket of the motherboard.

for your motherboard the eight pin block is located at the top just above the Vrm cooling heat sinks of the motherboard with the writing ultra durable printed on it.

I've made sure all cables are plugged in and reinstalled all drivers. I'm still getting these problems making it so my computer has to boot several times before it begins to work. Could there maybe be a problem with my psu?

To confirm ... you do have the 8-pin PCIe (6+2) connected to the card? And installed the latest drivers (not one came with the card)?

MSI rx480 gaming X is a power hog. That is a single 12v rail (38a) PSU so it is possible your system is putting a lot of strain on it when you factor in the CPU and several peripherals.

Yea, I think @Susquehannock is right. Just looking at your build, before adding hard drives, coolers, etc, you're sitting at around 65% of your PSU's capacity (you don't really want to surpass about 90%, but I try to keep mine under 80%). Normally, that's okay, but add those other components I mentioned and you're easily around 75% on a Corsair CX PSU. Corsair makes some good products, but the CX line is the bottom shelf option. It's feasible that having your screen flicker before stabilizing is because of dirty power or stress.

Ok so I have checked many times on the cables and all are currently plugged in correctly. I have now reinstalled drivers for AMD as well as deleting Nvidia files. Though I can't confirm at this moment, I have noticed lots of improvement after I uninstalled the MSI gaming app. When I had this, problems began occurring. I also noticed that when I closed it my computer shut down right after. After that was deleted all seems to be running well at the moment.
