Crazy mess caused by scanning a drive for data recovery- missing .dll and programs won't work!

Supposed missing dll files suddenly causing multiple programs to not run or malfunction, and several shortcuts say item has been moved so will not open program. Long story leading up to this issue...

I was trying to help someone else whose laptop stopped booting (it was in the repair loop that apparently many Windows 10 people have fallen into.) So since we could not get laptop to boot I took it apart and used an ATAPI/ATA bridge to connect her hard drive to my computer to attempt data recovery. Initially drive showed up in my device manager but not under drives in 'my computer' so I could not open/access it. I managed to assign a drive letter and made it show up with my other drives...although it still didn't look quite like the others nor could I click it to open and view files but I was able to select it from the menus of various data recovery programs I attempted to use.

The first 2 or 3 found nothing or could not search/scan, but EaseUS did in fact work and after many hours came up with 200 gigs worth of stuff. Since I was at least smart enough to decide that I did not want to transfer that load of who-knows-what onto my own brand new external I decided I would buy my friend an external of their own and run the recovery again at a later time.

SO, I saved the recovery results as the program offered to allow me to do. Mind you, I transferred nothing, did not hit 'recover' and to my understanding would have had to pay for the program before I could do any of that, which I planned to do once I had the not-yet-purchased drive that everything would get moved onto. I then disconnected the drive from my computer before shutting it down.

Well, first, tried to boot back up, boot manager is missing. I figured out that I needed to set as ACTIVE the 100 mb reserved partition which I did, and was then able to boot up with no problem last night- whew!! Relieved. Decided I would not even use my PC for the data recovery again and would use an old laptop if possible, but before I got around to that I booted up my PC today, the one that was fine last night after I figured out the boot issue and lo and behold several programs have error boxes popping up telling me there is a missing .dll file.

Then I try to click certain shortcuts on the desktop and 'item has been moved' or whatever- will not open. Some programs do open- I am able to get on the internet for example, but cannot open my Incredimail program.

AND, I am getting sound if I play something online, but no sound if I try to play music from Windows Media Player or a couple other players I tried...and if I try to play a video Windows Media Player fails and other player plays it with no sound.

HELP.

I do not understand how merely doing a scan of a drive without actually transferring anything from that drive to my own main drive could have caused all this.

P.S. Yes, I ran 'scannow' twice and it did claim it fixed some corrupted files, and there are some it states it could not fix, but none of the ones that it says it did not fix are the ones related to the programs I can't run, and I even reinstalled DirectX thinking that would at least fix Media Player but it did not. I also deleted the EaseUS program even though it was the one that worked because I wanted to make sure the folder of results wasn't somehow interfering but that did not help either.

My PC is running Windows 7. I do not have a disc to do a repair (but I do have Hiren's Boot CD which helped with with last night's problem.) Windows in general is working anyway as best I can tell, aside from sound and media player.

Now what? Sigh.................

Forgot to mention, before I did the scannow and directx stuff I did attempt 2 System Restores but they did not complete because they 'failed to extract newuser/downloads from the restore point' so can't do System Restore.
