Hi all, first time posting on the forums;

Im a bit concerned about my gpu/cpu temps when gaming. I am using a MSI GE70 2PE APACHE PRO gaming laptop with the following specs

GPU: MSI GeForce GTX 860M

CPU: Intel i7-4710HQ CPU @ 2.5ghz

Idle Temps are roughly 50C for GPU and 60C for CPU, however within 10 - 15 minutes of gaming ( mainly CS:GO and ESO ) i see these temps shoot up to around 85 90 C for GPU and 93 - 97C for CPU. After playing for around half an hour , 45 minutes i usually notice a drop in performance, still playable, but a noticeable drop in general FPS.

I pulled apart the case of the laptop and gave the fan a good clean the other day - a few dust bunnies but nothing major - but temps are still high - what could be the cause? any suggested fix to help keep stable performance and lower temps?

Any help would be great

Thanks :)

Hello and welcome!

Gaming laptops run very hot. You should be using a laptop cooler when you game. Not using one really isn't an option for you. Gaming at those temps will greatly reduce the life of your laptop, not to mention reduce your performance.

Ive been looking into laptop coolers but have been reading mixed things - would it really make a big difference to my overall performance? Any brands/models you would recommend?

Also do you think replacing the current thermal paste on the cpu/gpu would make a difference? The laptop is roughly 2 years old.

Thanks,
