So my desktop came with 6 GB of RAM (a Kingston 4 GB and a Kingston 2 GB). I found the exact model number of each and ordered a 4 GB stick to add, not knowing that this combination could cause instability.

Do I have anything to worry about? Should I replace the 2 GB with my new 4 til I can get another 2? And how should I order them?

Also, to be specific it's a gateway dx4870 UB 308 desktop and had an Asus Mobo. It has 4 slots btw.

Solution
As long as the brand and speed and timings are the same you should be fine, if you're worried, just replace the 2 with the 4 to get 8 total. Keep the 2gb stick as a backup or sell it.

I was actually thinking of just getting another 2 GB stick to have 2 pairs of each

The RAM sticks themselves will be identical, same exact models so I won't have any worries there but I'll try doing 4+4+2 to start. I'll put the 2 4s on the same channel and hope for the best. Worse comes to worse I'll just another 2 GB stick and have 12 GB total which should be a good amount for gaming and using audacity.

I tried and it seems perfectly fine so far. I did order a matching 2 GB to complete the second pair but it'll take a week to get here. So far it seems good though, Forza 6 apex runs better now. It was using nearly all 6 GB of my RAM, now it's using nearly 8 GB of 10. Crazy. Never played a game that used so much system RAM before.
