I just got a EVGA GTX 1060 SC 3gb and for some reason i can't get a stable 144 fps in Overwatch with low settings. I get between 100-120 fps while fighting the enemy team.
It's an older rig except for the graphics card i guess, but didn't think that would matter to much on low settings.
(I am not a wizard with computers that's why im here ;) )

Specs:
Intel Core i5 3330
Motherboard: MSI B75MA-P45 (MS-7798)
RAM 16GB DDR 1600MHz (seems to be running at 1333 though)
GPU: GTX 1060 SC 3gb

Solution
Any of the new chipsets - I would recommend either a Skylake chip or a Kaby Lake processor. Both are very good and suitable for your needs.
At this point in time, DDR4 now costs around the same as DDR3 (price difference is minor) - same with the motherboards. You're just saving yourself performance by upgrading to the newer generation.

That's kinda what i thought as well, even though i had hoped for an easier and less expensive solution ;) So i should start looking for a new cpu? Those are the more pricey part of the pc right? Had to happen one day i guess :)

Ehhh, you could look for a new CPU - or you could look to upgrade a larger portion of your PC.
I'm talking about moving from the old generation to the newer generations of processors. This will give you significant advantages when looking to upgrade in the future.
Of course, this is also the more expensive step.

If you're looking for a quick, easy way to get a performance boost, then yeah a new CPU.
If you're looking farther in the future, you'll want to get a new motherboard, CPU, and RAM (all of which are reasonably priced because of time on the market).

I was actually thinking about getting a new motherboard aswell. So i guess you are saying a new motherboard that is DDR4 "ready", some DDR4 and a new (higher end) cpu? I have a 500W power supply so i guess its ok. I really need to step up my computer game for this one! I dont know anything about motherboards or cpu's, i had just learned about gpu's and thought that was enough xD
EDIT: Just looked it up, is DDR4 necessary? Or can a mid range DDR3 motherboard do the job?

Okay thanks alot! I'll look into it when the time comes. I can always open a thread under the CPU section if i need some help then :D Atleast it better than buying stuff that dont match or is just plain bad or overkill.

Since some parts of my computer is from around 2012, i think its about time i start doing something about it. And since i play a lot of Overwatch and i'm starting to climb the ladders, it's always good to have the edge with 144 fps ;) Also, since i just bought a new 144hz monitor and a GTX 1060, i would love to use the full potential.

Exactly, upgrading your system to the newest chipsets and, as you've already done, graphics, you'll be able to get even the tiniest extra aim time with the higher refresh rates. Just be sure that your internet is also supporting you there.

With such high speeds, I must inquire, do you play CS:GO?

I just played a game of Overwatch and the fps was better than yesterday for some reason, arround 130-160. Let's hope it stays there for the time being! I will still be upgrading though. Internet shouldnt be a problem, but everything is up in the air right now.

I've been focusing mainly on Overwatch lately, but i have played a bit of CSGO before. It's been a while though :)

Great to hear that you'll be upgrading :) You could also get a K version of whatever processor to overclock it and get even better performance. With these processing specs, you could do well playing RTS games!
You should see how playing CS is with these specs ;) Get to Global Elite.

Anyways, you think your problem has been resolved?

I've written your thoughts down so i have them as a guideline. Thank you for that :)
I actually played some CS the other day for the first time in a while, and i'm considering playing it a bit again. If nothing more then at least just to blow of some steam from time to time ;)

I think i got what i needed, thanks again! Always nice with a helping hand. :)

If you are after an edge, you shouldn't be using V-sync, as V-sync adds a lot of latency in many situations. While you may still be interested in upgrading, a solid 144 FPS isn't your target without V-sync.
