Hello. In my Bios it reports that my CPU temp is ~55C. When I boot to desktop and run RealTemp or MSI Afterburner I get reports of 30-35C.

What could be causing such a temperature discrepancy? Shouldn't the temperature be even lower while in bios since Windows and all my programs aren't even running, just the basic bios which would be relatively light on CPU?

I am using a i7 7700k and an AsRock Extreme4 z270 motherboard.

if you feel the temperature of your hand, in the components of the mainboard, especially heatsinks on the mainboard, not capacitors or vrms near the cpu with the pc turned off

the readings on bios are just exaggerated, if you feel alot of heat in there, alot warmer than your hand, you need better airflow and consider a mainboard replace in the near future

some mainboards use cheap sensors, or they read wring the temperatures

i had a old mainboard that always reported the cpu at 0°c, the system ran well for years untill i sold it

if you can feel the temperature higher than those readings by just touching them, that is a error in the sensor itself and that is why two sides report two differnet values

my personal experience when this happens is that the board is about to fail, my cpu on 0°c was a non supported cpu on a weird mainboard

So can I trust the reports of the MSI afterburner and RealTemp then and not worry about the 20C difference the motherboard is reporting?

So just touch somewhere around here and if it feels around room temp I'm okay, but it it feels really hot I'm in trouble?
