I've been working on a computer for some time now, and after what seems like endless obstacles I feel im at the last one. The old computer they had ran Windows Vista, and they wanted to use the same HDD in this new build with their old stuff all on it. Problem is, the parts aren't compatible with vista and it seems the vista install is corrupted. Is there any way without just sitting there and copying files over to another drive and back again to keep some of the old files and just upgrade?

Solution
Going from a corrupted Vista install, upgrading to 7, then upgrading to 10....is a serious waste of time.
And may end up with a corrupted Win 10 at the end of things.

Embrace the pain, and start fresh.

Save all of the personal files off to another drive.
Clean install of Win 10.
Yes, it is possible, but it's 2 step process (direct upgrade from vista to windows 10 is not available).
Step 1 - upgrade to windows 7.
Step 2 - upgrade to windows 10.

What are full specs of the pc?

Anyway - that would be major software update. Backup before doing that is strongly recommended.

I figured i'd have to go 7 to 10.

Asus A68HM-K MBoard
AMD A6-5400K APU *Dont judge the APU, I personally like them even though intel is obviously better and it was on sale*
4GB G-Skill RAM
500GB Barracuda 3.0GB/S

Pretty nice build for $165 that does what they need :)
