Hello there, I recently purchased a new gtx 1060 for my computer.
After installing it I found that my computer won't startup and just gets stuck on the bios loading screen that pops up upon startup. Any help and advice would be appreciated. My computer specs are as follows...

2TB hard drive
16gb RAM
Intel i7 CPU
Gigabyte X79-UD3 Motherboard
Corsair CX750M 750W PSU

If any more information is required just ask

update your bios

maybe a incompatible card and your boards bios ?? that's got kinda common starting with the 900 series.. may want to look in to that if you all ready tested the card an know it working correctly [ like in a more modern computer with a ''full uefi '' bios ] it shows yours got one but cant get any of the support links to work on your board ???

''Ok MB was running BIOS version F7 and there was an Update for it to F16
F7 version was from 12/26/2011
F16 version is from 9/5/2013

Crossing fingers as I shut this thing down again and try installing the card one more time ''

''That did it. After Updating the BIOS to F16 version, I installed the card and it fired right up checking frame rates''

https://forums.geforce.com/default/topic/827849/geforce-900-series/gigabyte-x79-ud3-motherboard-amp-geforce-evga-gtx-970/

so see if that bios F16 gets you going if you don't have it in all ready

seems the same here as well

hope you don't have this board ?

maybe why the support links at giga don't work ???

Well the issue with trying to update my bios is that my computer doesn't have an onboard VGA port and since my old card doesn't work I can't update the bios without another card
Any suggestions on what to do or will I just need to find another card to use temporarily?

wheres the card you were using in it ?? maybe a buddy got a old card to use to get you going ??

well finaly got to the bios page at giga man there site must be having issues or something

seems all they offer is the 2 latest bios and must of removed all the rest [maybe in part to that recall thing I linked ?? ]

[rev 1.0 ]
http://www.gigabyte.com/Motherboard/GA-X79-UD3-rev-11#support-dl

f16 and f20 are your only choices I see they show 2 revisions of your board so be sure you use the right one for the bios

[rev1.0 ]

http://www.gigabyte.com/Motherboard/GA-X79-UD3-rev-10#support-dl

look the same but I'd be sure to got the correct revision anyway that mistake can add to your issues if something is a miss between them I some way

I do hope one of them F20 bios will do the trick

Hey thanks for the help. I just went out and bought a cheap GPU to test if that would work along with using my friends graphics card to try and have my computer actually start up to be able to update the bios. Unfortunately none of these worked. When using my friend's GPU the monitor just said 'no signal' and remained a black screen upon startup, whereas the other GPU I purchased (evga gt 770 with 1gb for £35) didn't work either and gave me the same issue as the other card I purchased (evga nvidia gtx 1060). i would think this is an issue with my motherboard. Yet the fact I can plug my old GPU in and somewhat get things to work makes me think otherwise. (By somewhat I mean the resolutions is messed up, there are pink and green lines going across the screen and whenever I go into the bios it is just a black screen where I have to move my mouse around to render in anything, yet when clicking any buttons it just freezes so I can't update the bios)

may just be time to put that old x79 to rest ? did yo try a new cable from the card to the monitor could be gone bad ?? what about your monitor as it is on your friends computer to see if it does the same on his rig ?? maybe a monitor issue ??

in the end only you know whats best to do next for you

thing is seeing that giga x79 recalls you may of got lucky mileage out of that one you got ??

Yeah I have two monitors so I've tried two different monitors and cables with each card. Perhaps you're right and I'm starting to think I may need a new motherboard. Is there any way to tell for certain if I do and in terms of compatibility will I need to look for anything specific when searching for a motherboard? Once again thanks for the quick and helpful response, I really appreciate this. This has been giving me a real headache for the past week

I had the same problem when I put my new GTX1060 in. Would just pause at the BIOS screen. Took it out, downloaded latest BIOS update, updated BIOS and then 1060 ran first time..

Unfortunately I don't think updating the bios is an option at the moment as I can't enter bios setup as my old GPU won't let me. And due to that I don't think I can reset the CMOS either

Oh okay thanks. I tried that but unfortunately no progress was made. I do indeed think that I probably need a new motherboard then. Any suggestion on what to look out for when buying one?

thing is look how many get issues with these new card like blackscreens ? but seeing that you old card then a 700 series new card and one you got from a buddy don't work as well that's the catch ..

just to ask did all these cards need power from the psu with a 6 or 8 pin pci-e lead ??? did not think to ask if that part of things may of failed in your PSU ??

hate for you to go buy a new psu but that's a possibility as well i'll assume your psu is about as old as that x79 build

I guess if you go buy a new solid PSU you not out anyting cause if it don't resolve then you figure the board may of failed and you do a new build you still want a new quality PSU for it anyway

your kinda in a spot on now what to do next

Yeah I actually purchased a new PSU the other day as I originally though that was the issue. So I don't think that could be it. So it probably is the motherboard then
