So I just got a Lenovo computer with the intention of upgrading it with a PSU, hard drive, and GPU that I previously owned.
However, I made a noob error and plugged a 24 pin cable into a 14 pin slot (the main power cable, of course). The slot gave no resistance so I figured nothing was wrong, but when I turned it on, something on the motherboard started smoking so I immediately turned it off, unplugged it and Googled the issue.
It turns out I need a 24 pin to 14 pin adapter, which I bought. My question is though, did I just fry my motherboard? Will it even work with the adapter now? I’ll keep it around just in case, but it won’t come in the mail for a little while and I’d like to know now. Did I just ruin all of my components? The old power supply for it is gone, by the way.
Spec Report: 600 Watt EVGA PSU, Intel core i7 Haswell CPU, Nvidia 750 TI GPU, basic old Lenovo 14 pin power slot motherboard, Western Digital Black 2 TB HDD, and standard Lenovo DVD/CD RW Drive.
