Just as the title says, sometimes my second hard-drive (non-os (windows 10) drive) spikes to 100% usage while nothing is running. It has been occurring more and more frequently lately, for extended periods of time, and also seems to happen at random. It actually just occurred while writing this post.

Here are pics of the usage while it is spiking with nothing drawing on it:
task manager
performance tab
open resource monitor

Any thoughts on what might be causing this? Any help would be greatly appreciated, this computer was built less than a month ago and shouldn't be having issues with slowdown.

Hi there Creen1,

You have two, separate physical drives right?

Does the issue persists when in safe mode?

You can try a couple of things:
- See if the drive is in a healthy state. Back up the data stored on it in case it is not: http://www.tomshardware.co.uk/forum/282651-32-best-diagnostic-testing-utility
- Attach the drive with different cables to another SATA port. (if this would not void the warranty)

Hi D_Know_WD,

Thank you for your reply. It looks like the issue was being caused somehow by Malwarebytes. It was installed on the second drive while Windows defender automatically installed on the SSD. When I deleted MWB and disabled Defender in favor of a new AV program, the problem disappeared.
