I am building a gaming PC, and was wondering if a FX 6300 CPU is good enough for Minecraft and battlefield 4 online. I have a pretty tight budget, so no more than 100$ would be better. Should I prefer getting an i3 ?
Thanks !
i built a computer for somebody else with fx6300 and gtx 750 ti tested it with a few games and it run battlefield 4 in full hd with gtx 750 ti without problem so i guess for you it shouldnt be a problem
FX 6300 would be okay, but the Pentium G4560 is is cheaper and (slightly) better in all game benchmarks I've seen. 64 player online maps do impact performance, but I don't know how much with FX 6300. If you get a G4560 you will need to get a B250 motherboard.
I don't know, i'm trying to spend as little a s possible, and the new I.tel platforms is pretty expensive. I'll check the prices though.
And why do I need a b250 motherboard, a h110 should work fine ?
the g4560 only got two cores dont it? if it only got two cores i would get the fx6300 . two cores is not enough for alot of newer games.
how much do you want to spend on cooler? if you get amd there is cheaper options on ebay search for deepcool. if you wanna spend more be quiet pure rock is a good cooler
checking some youtube videos it seems like the g4560 does handle most games though. you also got option to get a used intel core i5 2400 from ebay that is better than both fx6300 and g4560 but then you need to find a 1155 motherbard to.
The g4560 has hyperthreading so has 4 threads. Each of its 2 cores are massively more powerful than each of the cores on the FX6300.
The g4560 also uses a platform where you can drop in a modern i3/i5/i7 later. With the FX6300 you would need a much more expensive board to properly support a 125w FX8xxx and it will still be outperformed by a modern i3.
Also get a 200 series motherboard for the g4560. While the 100 series support it they need a BIOS update which will require having a Skylake cpu to hand to do the BIOS update.
The FX range are old (5 years) and weak. They also use end of life socket and RAM so give no good upgrade path.
i woulndt say the fx6300 is to weak it can handle any game but for that price maybe the g4560 is the far better option and since it only got 55 w tdp you might not need to buy another cooler.
Based on any recent benchmark id say the FX6300 is weak. It gives significantly lower average and minimum fps in any CPU heavy game and is outperformed by an i3. Not so sure about the g4560 as not seen many benchmarks yet but the couple I have the pentium is much better. The FX6300 was a low end CPU when it launched and hasn't aged well.
i testd the fx6300 and it played most games on full hd paired with a gtx 750 ti if you get a stronger graphics card it can handly any game on full hd so i dont see why it would be to weak if you want it for gaming?

Upon initial release of 7th-gen Kaby Lake CPUs such as the G4560, the 6th-gen boards such as the H110, B150, Z170 would need a BIOS update in order to be compatible with the new 7th-gen CPUs. So you would have to use a 6th-gen CPU to give the board a BIOS update before it would work with a 7th-gen CPU.
the pure rock is expensive but you get real mounting with screws and not the pushpins, i hate the pushpins .
it also probably will be real quiet with a 55 w tdp cpu
you concider looking for a used system? i seen some good deals on ebay with intel core i5-2400/2500 cpus with 8 gb ram for about 160 s. put your graphics card in that and upgrade the psu and possibly the cpu cooler and you got a decent system
the i5 2400/2500 is 1155 cpus but still scores 9 out of 10 when it comes to gaming
