I have just built a new pc using: G.Skill F4-4000C18D-16GTZR. When building I read that RAM is normaly placed so there is a empty slots between the 2 modules however when I tried this only 1 of the RAM modules worked. I have now placed them so there is no space and they are next to eachother in slot 1 & 2 and it seems to be working. Apologies for the probably incorrect terminology but is this right or is there something wrong with either RAM or mobo. Thanks.

Solution
Motherboard may be bad if you checked CPU pins thoroughly and still have the same problem.

As far as best motherboard, ROG Maximus IX Apex appears to be the best, DDR4-4266 (F4-4266C19D-16GTZR) with XMP alone.

XMP enabled? Boots at the default DDR4 2133 or not? Latest BIOS? You may be stuck with it at DDR4 2133 until BIOS support can catch up if it works at all.

Try XMP. Be careful of the memory voltage though. If XMP fails try manually configuring it.

Think XMP is enabled and definitely boots at DDR4 2133, have tried changing the value but just failed to post until I restored defaults. BIOS is latest version.

I had the same exact issue too! 2133hz 4gbx2 RAM modules. Didn't work in the 2 and 4 slots so I paired them next to each other. Viola! It boots and registers that it's 8gigs of ram on-board. I even checked the processor no bent pins. Everything is working as it should.
