Is it worth upgrading from gtx660 to gtx 1050TI?

Hello.
Currently i have a Zotac GTX660 2GBGDDR5 and using it with a LG monitor(1600 x 900). All the games i play runs fine and are playable at med/high/very high.

But, i am considering an upgrade to IPS panel monitor with 1080p resolution and GTX 1050TI 4GB OC edition happens to comes in my budget.

So, my question, is it worth upgrading? Or should i save more and go for a card like 480x or something similar?

My requirement is to play most games (2-3 years margin), on high-very high settings at 1080p resolution. Not looking for any ULTRA or INSANE setting and stuff.

Recommended psu size for a Rx470 is 450w. 20A. Recommended psu size for a gtx660 is 430w. 24A.
Recommended psu size for a gtx1050 is 320w. 16A.
Bronze designated units just means its supposed to have a certain amount of efficiency, 82/85/82% at 20/50/100% loads and is in no way a verification of quality or lack thereof. A Bronze Seasonic S12-II is a far better unit than many supposed Gold units. I'd trust my Bronze M12-II 520w over a Gold rated Evga Supernova Nex any day of the week and twice on Sunday. If your Bronze unit is rated at 35A, can't see any reason why you'd need to change it for any of the 3 mentioned cards in your budget range, unless it really is a POS. Get the make and model.

It's a good card for fullhd gaming, go for it.

You don't mention your CPU or power supply. So without knowing that, the 1050 Ti is the safest choice. It can be found in versions that do not require extra power connectors and it performs well at 1080p. If by ' (2-3 years margin)' you mean that last two or three years, it's all you need. If you mean the next two or three years, you might be better off with a 470 or 480. No one knows what will be needed in the future but the 1050 Ti is more of a good budget card for the here and now, not a card with loads of extra performance to carry you into the future.

Currently i have an fx4300. Waiting for ryzen. As soon as it arrives, i will upgrade processor. Power supply is 500 watts bronze. I think it gives 34 amps at +12v, not sure. By 2-3 years margin, i meant into future.

If you have the power to run a 660, you'll have more than enough for a 1050ti. But it's not really that much of an upgrade. Basically a sideways move to a newer, more efficient gpu, but the fps and graphics will basically be the same. For a realistic upgrade you'd need to look at a gtx970, 1060, r9 390 or rx480.

if he able to run 660 then at least it is confirmed he can run 1060. if i remember correctly 660 was rated at 130w max (used to own 660 in SLI setup) where as 1060 max power usually rated around 120w.

@OP

going from 660 to 1050ti is more like going from 660 to 960. i did exactly that in the past. there is noticeable gain but if you going to up your resolution then that gain will be negated. can't stretch your budget at least to RX470 level?

I can do that... if i wait few more days. But wont rx470 power requirements be higher? I have a not so good Bronze Power Supply (Forgot name) which gives around 35Amps at +12v. Do i need to change that too?
