Installing nvidia drivers with amd card, possible?

Hi

So I wanted to upgrade my amd HD 5870 1gb gpu with a brand new Strix geforce gtx 1060 6gb. What happens now is when I insert the new card my pc is suddenly very slow. CPU runs at 100% all the time and there are no procceses using it. I read somewhere that it could be because of the drivers. So I went into device manager and saw that the card wasn't installed correctly. My problem now is that I can't run the driver package application I downloaded from Nvidia's website when the new card is installed. And when I say slow, I mean that a right click takes 1min to pop up the little window. When I run the application, the loading icon appears at my cursor and dissapears after a while but the application doesn't start. Can I run the application with my old card and then insert my new card afterwards?

Hope you guys can help me.

Solution
The problem has been solved. It appeared to be a BIOS problem. I found some other guy with the same problem, he had the latest BIOS available from the Foxconn website, as did I but that didn't solve the problem. He contacted Foxconn and they gave him a 'secret' BIOS which solved the problem. I flashed my BIOS and now my pc is running smoothly with the new GPU.

If anyone has the same problem PM me for the BIOS file.

ps: I have a foxconn renaissance and not a renaissance II my bad.

No I did not remove them. I'll do that and insert new card, maybe then it will work or I may be able to use the application for the Nvidia drivers.

Thx for the fast respons

Ok so I uninstalled the old drivers and I was able to install new drivers for the new card. I was able to do so by removing 2 of the 3 ram sticks. When I do that the pc runs normal again with the cpu at normal levels. After installing the new drivers I put back in the 2 ram sticks and the problem occurs again. Cpu back at 100%. Ram sticks are fine checked them all.

I read on some forums that it might be because of a driver conflict.
My original question has been answered, the new drivers for the card are installed but the problem still occurs.
Should I continue in this thread or make a new one for the general problem?

You said you checked the ram what did you use to check them with?

As the pc works with one stick I tried them all seperatly and in every slot and they all worked fine. It's when I use all 3, the cpu goes to 100%. If I go into device manager with all 3 sticks inside, a sound device doesn't work, so I think it might be conflicted. The "conflict" with the sound device doesn't show tho when only one stick is inserted.

Thats not a great way to test the memory. You should really use something like memtest86 to test the ram. I am not saying it is the ram, but it is peculiar. When is the last time you updated the bios? When is the last time you did a fresh install of windows? Virus and malware scans in safe mode? Does this problem persist in safe mode?

I just tested with ram from a pc that works fine and the problem persists. Last time I did a fresh install is when I tried to upgrade my gpu and I had the same problem, it was also a Nvidia card. Searched long and hard for a solution but didn't found one so I got back to my ati card. But as it is a serious upgrade now, I really want to find a solution. Atm I think the problem lies with the audio conflict but I have no clue how to approach the problem. I'm gonna run process explorer in a min and post results.

Please post all specs. You did not say if you have updated the bios. and not willing to run tests suggested. Trying to rule out a motherboard issue. You say tested ram. You are not testing ram. YOu are insterting ram. Testing ram is running a test such as memtest that can actually scan the sectors of the memory.

Motherboard: Foxconn renaissance II
CPU: Intel I7 940 2.93 GHz
GPU: Strix Geforce GTX 1060 OC 6gb
Ram: Patriot PVT36G1333ELK DDR3 1333MHz (9-9-9-24), 3x2gb
PSU: Corsair vx550W

Last BIOS update was march 2016.

I'll do a memtest right now.

OK thanks for the info. So your mobo would be up to date. I am guessing you are running onboard audio which should not be causing audio conflicts. you are only ruining 6gb of ram which is not much for anything now days. Your power supply is fairly small, but I think you are squeaking by. Your cpu uses about 130 watts, vid card uses about 150 watts.
When is the last time you updated your audio drivers? Have you done so since installing your new vid card since you tihnk that is causing a problem?

I had an audio card which I took out because I thought it might help but it didn't. Haven't updated the onboard sound drivers since installing the new card.
Tried a corsair 1000w earlier this day, still didn't work.
6gb is not much that is true, but pc does run ok when i remove 2 sticks. So only 2gb remains at that point.

I'll update the audio drivers.

Memtest came out clear, nothing in red.

That's the one I ran, with a usb stick. All sticks/slots came out clear. + they also work fine when I insert the old videocard.

Here is what is not making sense. I was leaning towards a bad mobo, but now really leaning towards corrupt windows install. First you did not install the card correctly the first time. and have been having problems since. I think I would test the card out in a different pc to make sure the card was sound. What errors do you have with the card in and while in safe mode?

I was thinking the same. I have inserted the old videocard again and everything works perfectly, no device in device manager has a yellow mark in front of it and pc runs fast. So my conclusion out of this is that the hardware is fine, correct me if i'm wrong.
Can't put the card in a different pc atm, the card is brand new tho.
With the new videocard in safe mode it's the same, pc is unusable slow.
As i'm running the old card again now (i've been at it since this morning) is there something I can do to 'prep' the pc and make sure nothing old is still here to cause problems?
That I can try, but for further solutions, i'll have to wait until tomorrow.

I would test the new card in a different pc , but please do it correctly by removing the old drivers of the old card first before installing the new card then downloading the new drivers and installing. There is a slim chance the new card is defective and this will rule that out.

Sorry for the late reply, when searching the web for solutions I got a severe trojan on my pc. Tried to delete it myself bbut ended up reinstalling windows 10 with a drive format.

Tried card, it's fine.

I did a CPU-Z run tho, memory shows at (7-7-7-20) and shows 533.2 Mhz (x2 = 1066.4). But the sticks are 9-9-9-24 and 1333Mhz. What can I conclude out of this?
