I'm upgrading my current mother board - ASUS M5A78L-M/USB3 - to my new motherboard - ASUS AMD AM3+ 970 PRO GAMING AURA - Do I need to reinstall windows or because it is the same brand can I just install the new motherboard, boot it up and do nothing?

Yes, sorry but you'll have to reinstall the OS. Besides, looking at the specs of both MOBOs you mentioned, they are very different, for example; the M5A78L-M/USB3 uses Realtek®, 1 x Gigabit LAN Controller, while 970 PRO GAMING/AURA uses Intel® I211-AT, 1 x Gigabit LAN Controller, M5A78L-M/USB3 audio:
VIA VT1708S 8-Channel High Definition Audio CODEC, 970 PRO GAMING/AURA audio SupremeFX 8-Channel High Definition Audio CODEC and so on.
