I'm working on my first build for a machine that will primarily be used for 3D modeling (and to a small extent, gaming). The programs I use the most often are 3DS Max (no Mental Ray or Vray though), Zbrush, Substance Painter, Photoshop, and UE4. I do play Starcraft II as well, but that is somewhat secondary (but would be a very nice plus).

Using suggestions online, I made this build: https://pcpartpicker.com/list/3Pswjc
Note: I did not include a power supply or additional memory on purpose as I have those items that I can salvage from my current machine.

I know it will be hard, but trying to stay under US $1000. Does the build I created seem sufficient? Am I lacking anything essential? Thank in advance for your input.

1. You don't need a CPU cooler since the i7 6700 comes with a stock cooler that isn't so bad but I guess you can add one if you want a little bit less noise.
2. If you want Wi-Fi it's better to choose a motherboard with Wi-Fi
3. An optical drive isn't necessary either
4. For windows it's cheaper to download it with a USB stick and to buy a key. You can learn more here: https://youtu.be/yXTqz3Fd28M
5. I really recommend a better case like this one. Trust me it will be a lot easier to work with, better cable management and better airflow.

Thanks so much for this! I literally just ordered my parts last night, but I may return what I got for some of your suggestions. I actually ended up buying a higher i7 and better mobo so my cost actually went up. Stayed with the original RAM as the one suggested was not compatible as you mentioned.

Here's what I actually purchased for anyone interested: https://pcpartpicker.com/list/9kTKxY
