And Most Importantly, Why Are You Upgrading: Bought and built a lower - mid range gaming PC 5 yrs ago and it stopped working. Think there is an issue with the drivers. Either way I want to step up and upgrade.

I want to be able to play the majority of games at high to ultra with out lag. Not planning on doing anything outside of personal gaming. Play FPS, MMORP and everything in between. I got the following build from a custom pc website. I was wondering if this is the best way to go, is there any better build that are advised or any pre-built computers that are comparable.

CPU: Intel Core i7-7700K 4.2GHz Quad-Core Processor ($343.33 @ OutletPC)

Monitor: Asus PB277Q 27.0" 2560x1440 75Hz Monitor ($281.24 @ Amazon)

Do I need that big of SSD and Cooler? The site I got the build from says it should play VR and 4k games comfortably.

Or should I go this route. I saw another build by someone else here that doesn't have the bigger SSD and Cooler but has 32GB memory and 1080 video card.

You'd have an excellent liquid cooler for overclocking your i7, enough wattage on one of if not the best PSU to support that 2nd GTX 1080 for 60+@ 4K Ultra.
Special promo at Newegg for that PSU; you get a 32GB Team USB drive with that Team Dark 16 GB DDR4 3000 purchase; something you can use or just left as the USB that have the W10 installation on it and save it for a rainy day.

The SK hynix SL308 has similar performance to the Samsung 850 Evo at lower price.

Phanteks ProM Acrylic looks great with its large window with the only downside being limited HDD/SSD mount, but with a 500GB SSD+2TB HDD, you'd have to store/record a pretty good amount of video/gameplay video to fill them up. And avoid the darn Sandisk SSD Plus like the plague. Read Toms recent article on the DRAMless SSD to know why.

The ASUS Z270E Gaming have everything you may want in a MB, ac Wifi, USB 3.1, great audio and OC ability and two M2 slot for NVMe SSD which would help negate the natural weakness of the case.

The combination of this liquid cooler and the ASUS Z270-E can effectively guarantee your i7 running at at least 4.8Ghz safely (most Kabylake 7700k can reach 5Ghz, but the not-as-good silicon would require more power and therefore more cooling power).
