Will a z270 motherboard work with windows 7?

I've heard about issues with windows 7 and z170 compatibility, along the lines of usb 3.0 not working on windows 7 (until an update is installed) which naturally makes it difficult to install windows 7 via a usb dvd drive and mouse/keyboard.

I'm guessing this issue is still present on z270 boards? I ask since i already have a i5 6600k skylake cpu and a copy of windows 7 and am planning on buying a z270 board to go with them now that they're replacing z170 boards. If it is, what's the best way to deal with it?

Some people have said to download the motherboard drivers and insert them into the windows iso file (something i have no idea how to do but could learn), but if that's the case, would I be better to buy a z170 board since there are guides: http://www.asrock.com/microsite/Win7Install/ on how to install windows 7 on z170 boards, and i'm guessing those guides wouldn't work with z270 boards?

Others advise using a PS/2 mouse/keyboard and a dvd drive which connects via sata to install windows, thus avoiding using usb ports all together. Alternatively could i get a z270 board with some usb 2.0 ports and use them to avoid usb 3.0 incompatibility? Or are none of these 3 fixes viable?

Before the Z270 release, they said you can't. But right now, you can use the win7 on most of them as long as they have the win7 drivers.
And you will do the similar way for the Z170, using utility software to create the bootable USB first.

Ah i see, thanks for the links that's puts my mind at ease. Just to make sure, i should be ok to use a PS2 keyboard and optical drive in order to install windows on a z270? I'd rather not have to muck around with the iso in order to create a bootable usb and just install the drivers normally once windows is installed if possible.

Hahaha, i clearly failed to keep the panic i was feeling out of my writing when i made the post. I would do but i'm not intending to buy any more components or build the pc until this July after my exams have finished, by which time i'd expect most z170 boards to be out of stock, so if it turns out i do need a z170 i'll need to buy it now in preparation for the later build.

Yes, you can use the ps2 mouse/keyboard with optical drive.

7th Generation Kaby Lake support only Windows 10 64-bit on Z270.

For example:
Asus PRIME Z270-A

OS support:
Windows 10 64-bit
Windows 8.1 64-bit *
Windows 7 32-bit *
Windows 7 64-bit*

*Windows 8.1 64-bit and Windows 7 32/64-bit are only supported when using 6th Generation Intel Processors
