My current build:
WD Green 1TB
Core i7 870 2.93 GHz
Radeon HD 4350
Gigabyte H57M-USB3
Thermaltake 450w
Team Elite 1x4GB DDR3

I would like to convert my current build into something that i can game on and also use Maya and Unity on. My budget is around $1000 AUD. What do you suggest i replace, what GPU should get? Will my current CPU bottleneck the new GPU? Also, what SSD should i get?

Thanks

Solution
you current CPU while not the best is still very capable. especially if overclocked.

If you manage to overclock it to 3.5 GHz and above, you can pair it with any modern GPU without issues. especially if you use 1440p or higher res monitor.
if you use 1080p@60Hz moni - I'd suggest no less than GTX 1060 6GB /RX 480.
Anything higher (resolution or refresh rate) - go with GTX 1070.
I'd put a better PSU (something decent like Corsair RM550/650x or EVGA SuperNova G2/G3/P2 550-650 watt).
and if you have some money left after those two, add an 240-500GB SSD like Crucial MX300 or SanDisk X400

keeping stuff like ram and psu would limit you a little bit.

i would wait what ryzen will cost in 4/8 6/12C config, asrock board (best power/component quality, as asus/msi just tend to go for more phases),
kingston 16-32gb ddr4, 1060 or 1070 (depending how much it would accelerate your software), 650-750w platin psu (corsair/evga/seasonic).
depending on board/cost, a nvme would be the quickest ,(960 evo) or ocz vector 180, for the OS (best warranty is ozc, replacement drive at no cost incl shipping/return), or crucial MX 300 for storage/size at good performance.

over the budget, but start with things like psu/gpu, so you dont have to have money for whole built.
once ryzen is out, you should be able to save a few bucks on cpu/board, as intel is definitely more expensive.

if you can, get a psu like this:

i would prefer a Corsair Ax760w (non I) when less than 170, see if you can find one as refurb.

well Maya is more about the video card and Ram , gaming is about the video card and cpu.
Definitely first thing would be video card get a 1070 and you will be set for both maya and gaming.

the CPU you have score relatively low on passmark Intel Core i7-870 @ 2.93GHz 5,424 compares a little slower than Intel Core i5-6500 @ 3.20GHz with 7,164 upgrading this will mean motherboard and ram upgrades as well. I chose the newer CPU I5-7600 because I wanted extra $$aud to get a nice SSD in there to speed things even more for you assuming you do all these things, here is the breakdown. AUD$ Australian Stores only. no amazon. and no need to change PSU Consumption is 270w

unless the psu is gold or better rated, i would not risk a 1000$ rig on it, by skimping on the psu.
psu's are the most important part, as nothing works without it, and lots of stuff can get damaged from low quality ones.
names dont mean much, since most brands are not making the units themself.

platinum rated ones are normally good (no matter what brand), i prefer seasonic/corsair (ax, non i series).
even that the corsair Ax series is made by seasonic, all test show the corsairs are on the "newer" platform and are a bit better performing (vs the SS one).
check with a microcenter around you, lots will carry a refurb one for cheap.

never stated anything to the contrary.

and why are they more expensive? because of better components.
please show me one platinum/titanium rated psu that failed in any review/test...

so far i have only seen gold and up, where no matter manufacturer/make will pass all load/ripple tests.
