Hello , my name is John and I have an issue with the asus maximus VII motherboard

Motherboard : asus maximus VII hero
I7 4970K automatically clocked from the software board at 4.5 ghz
8+8 Kingston hyper beast 2300 MHz ram
Corsair h110 water cooling
Corsair RM 750 fully modular PSU
Asus strix 970 GPU
Full tower case and ssd + Hdd
Windows 8 installed on ssd

The issue is that when I powered on my PC I get no power on monitor , keyboard or mouse and on motherboard I have a red cpu light intense red and Q-code is 00

First time I noticed this the 2 front fans and the back one were not spinning and odd enough the GPU fan was spinning ( not normal) while the water cooling fan were spinning normally

I want to add that the day before this happened all worked just fine and something happened during that night or that day

After I took power off from the wall for a bit and power on again all fans were spinning and the GPU fans got back to normal.

Now when I power on it starts and immediately the cpu red light is on , all fans are spinning like they should but no bios load , no signal on monitor ,keyboard or mouse - I have tried to plug the monitor into the motherboard and same issue .

The Q-code on the board is 00 witch is not in use by the motherboard manual but reading that it's the cpu not initializing and that could be motherboard fault also as far as I can understand.

I checked and double checked all connections and they are all properly seated

It's been like this for a week now while I tried to switch the ram with 1 stick and 2 sticks of known working ram from the other PC I have , I also tried all slots in all combination possible so I know it's not the ram or the ram slots on the motherboard.

Next I took off the GPU and same issue. Added a known working GPU and same issue

Next I took the PSU from the other known working PC and hooked the cpu , motherboard and my GPU and same issue. I also tested my PSU on another PC and is working

Cleared CMOS multiple times - nothing
Flashed the newest bios from asus website with USB in the correct USB slot and the correct name on the file - still no change and issue continues.

At this point I tested mostly anything but the motherboard and the cpu

I did not remove the batery and short the connector as I don't know for know how to do that.

Next I intend to take out everything from the case and test the board with the cpu in and connect the PSU to the cpu and motherboard only with everything out like the ram and GPU and add one at the time

Some history since I Builded this as this is not the first issue I had.

Builded this PC around January 2015 and imediatly after Windows install i had random shutdown like when playing csgo( random shutdown - not always ) or when watching YT video on IE but not in Mozilla . Another known and repeatable shutdown was when I was auto tuning the fans with the board software. Always at one point the PC shotdown .
After a while I couldn't even install window because the shutdown occurred while installing.

I tested all components like ram, PSU and GPU , flashed bios multiple times on different versions and no luck. Just random shutdown all over the place.

I went like this until June 2015 when updated again the bios and all was solved.

I know for sure it was the bios at this point after 6 months of testing.

Since June 2015 the PC worked flawlessly until a week ago...

Now I contacted amazon but the 2 years warranty just expired from the vendor and so I contacted asus and I know will be a loooooong wait until I get anything sorted out. If I'm not wrong I should have 3 years warranty from asus - I hope so

It's either the motherboard faulty or the cpu died on me. On both I should have warranty to change or repair . Right ?

Since I wanted to update somewhere this year I went ahead and ordered the new asus maximus ix hero paired with the new i7 7700K and a new ssd for the OS.

I still want to fix this board or cpu somehow and I'll bring it to a shop to diagnose what is actually wrong since this might go beyond my knowledge.

I want to ask the community if they know anyone with the same issue that solved it?

All I can find is some had the PSU faulty or the ram and some just changed the motherboard or RMA it but I seem not to find any actual fix for this

Please feel free to give any suggestion possible since I intend to dig deep into this until I find what is actually wrong here and I will come back to this forum after I find the issue and fix it.

Ps. I can upload a video with the PC powering on if there is of any help to anyone .

I know I went on a big story but this is just to include as much info as possible to prevent back and forth messages

Thank you for dedicating your time to read this and I hope we can get to this common problem that it seems has no resolve around it

John

Just as un update. I have brought the motherboard and cpu to a PC repair center and I'm waiting for a diagnosis. Will be back with an answer for those like me in similar situations.

Thanks

John,

The situation you outlined seems almost identical to mine. i7 and asus maximus vii mobo, 00s for q code, solid red cpu light, no response on any connected monitors/peripherals, tried some basic troubleshoot but had no luck. I also experienced some random power off events too, maybe 2 times a month? I was never able to determine a pattern for that behavior, though it only happened while I was using it. I don't think it ever turned itself off while I left it idle.

The system just stopped working today today, after operating with this same hardware for years. Last thing I replaced was the video card over a year ago, and I used it for hours yesterday.

I'm glad to see the list of things you've attempted because otherwise I may have tried them in desperation as well, likely to no avail.

Were they ever able to sort out your issue? I will be at LEAST trying a new CPU, and now I'm trying to decide whether I should cut my losses and replace the mobo while I'm at it. Did you ever try the same mobo with a different CPU?

Thank you in advance for your help.

Problem Solved

The issue was that the motherboard was dead. I still have but gave up on repairing it. Not sure exactly what component is dead but not worth changing it.
Solved with any 1150 socket motherboard. CPU I7 4790K is performing amazingly , I could say better than his replacement I7 7700K
I ended up by changing Motherboard with Hero IX and I7 7700K , 16G 3200Mhz ram and etc... difference in speed is very small .

Thanks for your response. Helpful to know it was your motherboard because, since the cpu wasn't initializing, I was thinking it might just be the cpu. Planning to send both in for warranty since I'm just under the 3 year mark.

I have purchased new components as well. I haven't noticed a big impact in performance either, but it's nice to have new parts because I use it constantly.
