So I have an AMD X4 9950 CPU running with the stock AMD Cooler (it's the slightly better 4 pipe copper heatpipe one). This One Here

It's in a conventional 7 slot PCI Full tower Case, with a 120mm fan in the back and 120mm fan in the front, so cooling is taken care of.

I'm using speccy to checkout the temps. I've heard the temperature sensors that programs like speccy and HW Monitor use for AMD CPUs aren;t the most accurate (and i've seen and heard about the FM2 ones being way off)

I've replaced the thermal paste with a decent amount, but not too much.

Just while dowloading/installing a game from steam, it hovers between 60 - 65 degrees on the CPU and 55 on the motherboard.

While running the Unigine Valley Benchmark it hits ~68 degrees on the CPU and the motherboard is on around 58.

While running the MEtro Last Light Gaming Benchmark looking at ~70 degees on the CPU and 60 on the motherboard.

It's been running for about an hour+ like this without crashing or turning itself off. SO i'm not entirely sure how accurate these figures are. However would running it like this long term be potentially dangerous for the system?

Thanks,

68-70ºC during a stress test is more than acceptable, however your mobo being at 55+ is not. It would seem you have a bad airflow in your case, thus keeping your idle temps (60-65) so high.

Look inside your case and see if there's any room for a better cable management, those 2 coolers you have can simply be not enough, wondering which GPU you have, it could be its heat getting accumulated inside your case.

GPU is a tiny little 550Ti which idles at 25 degrees and under load is around 70 so that doesn't seem to be of any problem.

As for bad airflow, cable management is fine (all behind the motherboard tray) and I've never had a problem with 1 120mm in the back and 120mm in the back in any other PC I've owned, including fx 8350's, that's why o'm so perplexed about the temperatures.

Buying an ftermarket cooler would fix the issue entirely, however I really don't want to if it's not necessary
