Hi,
I am trying to diagnose my brothers girlfriends computer issues. She has had massive issues trying to get DS3 to run, mainly crashing as soon as she gets in game. She is unfortunately on the other side of the country to me so im limited in what i can do but i asked her to send me a dxdiag report and it lists her Aprox. total memory on the display tab as being 1657mb. She has a GTX 960 which is supposed to be 2GB and has 8gb of system ram. For comparison my dxdiag says i have 18358mb total memory from a 12 GB Titan x and 12gb of system memory. Would i be right in thinking that her GPU VRAM is dead and by extension her GPU or have i missed something?

1. If the BIOS reads the full 2 GB but only 1.657 is available it may be the RAM is good and just that the total is not read.
2. If the BIOS only reads 1.657 GB total, part of the GPU memory is probably dead.

If #1, it may be the video card needs reseating, or cleaning the PCIe slot.
If that doesn't make a difference, have her install a system info program such as HWiNFO and as the program starts, have the Sensors only run. And have her send you the report in file or images. This may not be conclusive but it may help better understand the issue.

The computer still boots into windows fine, so there are plenty of programs like HWinfo that you mentioned that can give you information that might help narrow the problem.
If you don't have access to the computer to do hardware checks then it does limit the advice you can give.
