i have an AMD A8-7650k overclocked to 4.20GHz and i was wondering if it would be compatible with MSI's 970A GAMING PRO CARBON MB. I'm fairly new to custom building and would like to find out if this build will be possible

Solution
no it is not the Processor is a FM2+ socket and the motherboard is a AM3+
use this site for Basic compatibility checks https://pcpartpicker.com/list/

The AMD A8-7650k uses a FM2+ type of socket to plug into the motherboard.

The MSI 970A GAMING PRO CARBON uses an AM3+ socket for compatible CPUs.

The FM2+ and AM3+ designs are different and not compatible with each other.

The pcpartpicker site takes into account the compatibility of chosen components when you select devices to build a system.
