Beginner looking for help with a build

I am a beginner in PC building and I would appreciate some guidance. I am aiming for a strong-yet-cheap gaming rig. So far, I have the CPU, motherboard, and some RAM picked out.

CPU:
AMD FX-6300 AM3+
3.5GHz, 8MB Cache

Motherboard:
Gigabyte AMD ATX 970A-DS3

RAM
Corsair 16GB
204 SODIMM

Are these components compatible? Have I done anything incorrectly? Any help is appreciated.

If you want strong but cheap rig forget about AMD. All you want is labeled Intel, like it or not

At least until Ryzen is out, which is actually quite soon. My advice: wait those 2-4 weeks for Ryzen premiere, and build then

Right now the most sensible builds are based on Kaby Lake CPUs, coupled with B250 (for non-overclock build) or Z270 (for overclock build) mobo and 16 Gb (or 8 Gb if short on budget) of DDR4 2400 MHz memory.

Even if you decide to go with this CPU and motherboard, the Ram will not work as it is designed to work in a laptop computer, NOT a desktop. SODIMM is laptop only memory standard.
