Hey guys/gals, I'm interested in rebuilding myself another gaming pc but don't wanna spend too much, I've already purchased an rx 480 and picking out other things. Now the part I'm currently at a loss with is should i even bother upgrading my cpu? I currently have a I7 4820k.. Now from what im told, the 2011 socket type is dated and not really worth keeping.. im not sure if this is true. also the other issue is if i do keep it, than i would have to find a motherboard that which supports that socket type.. so in the opinion of you guys, should i keep it or change it out?

oh and i do definitely game on this pc. the most cpu intesive game i currently play is bf1, i also play diablo and pretty much most games that come out. i do play in 4k... i know my fps isnt all that high but it is definitely playable at this point...
any pointers would be much much appreciated

There's no pressing need to upgrade the entire system unless you are just tired of what you have. That Ivy Bridge platform has tons of gaming life left. Your i7 is a strong CPU. All you need is a suitable card for the resolution and in-game settings you play at.

The fall likely broke the thermal bond between the IHS and heatsink. For the audio, maybe stresses on the board from the fall broke some traces.

If I was going to build a new system in the near-future, I'd wait for Zen which should be only about a month away. Should rumors hold true, you'll be able to get roughly the same performance as Intel's chips for 30-40% cheaper.
