I am curious if it is finally worth upgrading my i5? I have a lot of interest in getting the i7-7700k but would also have to upgrade ram because of the ddr3 to ddr4 senario.

I have had FPS drop in Battlefield 1 since day one, and it lessened the more I OCed my i5, but over longer periods the fps drop gets worse. The processor never runs hotter than 50 C. Also, I upgraded my graphics card last year to a EVGA GTX 970 FTW+ so I don't feel that should be a bottleneck anymore.

Let me know your thoughts!

I'd wait out a little longer until Cannonlake if you want to see a big performance increase, Kaby Lake'll give you about a 40% increase in performance, but it isn't currently worth the big investment imo.

Plus, if anything was holding you back right now i'd say your GPU is part of it.
I think you should save up for an i7 8xxx and 1170 when they release. :)

Thanks for asking on Tom's Hardware! I agree with both ahnilated and Chugalug_, however, my opinion is sort of a combination of their suggestions. I recommend getting a program like WiseCare365 and cleaning out your system of junk files see if that helped. Also, if you could tell us how much of an overclock you have on the 2500k, that would be a useful fact for us so that we can help you. Hope this helps!

^YES!^ Completely forgot about the used market because I'm an idiot ahahah. Totally look on Craigslist and eBay. Another really good place to look is a subreddit called "HardwareSwap" just create an account and you're good to go! I bought my i7-2600k from Craigslist with a bundled Z68 motherboard and 8GB of DDR3-1600Mhz for $100. Give it a try and I'm sure you'll find something good! Hope this helps and PROPS TO theonerm2 FOR REMINDING ME ABOUT SECONDHAND! :D

Second hand is generally very unreliable, and the quality of components is not guaranteed.
They could die on you within two weeks and you wouldn't be able to get any sort of return or warranty claim for it.
Never buy second hand unless it's either through amazon or a personal connection imo.

Nearly all of those channels except for maybe Tech City are crap imo, they don't use good quality parts, give bad advice (especially scattervolt tech) and don't have great production quality.
Stick to the main tech channels like Bitwit, Paul's Hardware, JayzTwoCents, Linus Tech Tips, Austin Evans and Joker Productions.

CPUs and motherboards are among the riskiest to buy generally, i've heard of people putting on false IHSPs in order to sell a CPU as something it isn't, and dead CPU sockets/PCIE sockets because they've fried something, most often the CPU.
As I said, Amazon and eBay?
Sure.
Craigslist?
No thanks.
