I've never opened up a laptop nor do I really intend to, but I was just curious. How does the GPU in a laptop work? Is it soldered onto the motherboard, or does it use some other interface other than PCIE?
Typically mobile GPUs are integrated into the the motherboard PCB so don't run via PCIE. You will probably be able to find a fair few videos on youtube showing you the internals of Gaming laptops with mobile gpus
this mxm thing looks interesting. im guessing only a few notebooks use that though, so there won't be upgrading old laptops with new 1080s anytime soon. thanks!
