Experiencing slow load ups of system files [HARD DISK]

Hi guys
For quite some time now i have noticed that whenever i open My Computer go to some drive and hit back my system takes a long time to go back.This happens in many other times too.
This results in a very a laggy user experience.
is it my hard disk causing the problem?
Please help.
Any help will be greatly appreciated.

Yeah sure
Cpu: i5 3330
Ram:4 gigs
Gpu:was HD 7770 but it's now dead
Hdd:a 250 gb Samsung one and 70gb seagate
Is that all that's required

[strike]Well firstly, unless you have a dedicated GPU which you failed to mention, the HD 7770 isn't dead. You wouldn't be able to access the desktop without it.[/strike]
Edit: Sorry, I misunderstood
Try using an SSD. They greatly improve the speed of booting and loading everything.

There are small things you can do, like clean your drive of any old useless files, defragment it. These may improve performance but not by much.

If the Hard Drive is what's causing the slow experience, then only a SSD will speed it up.

You can make sure that both your drives are in a healthy shape: http://www.tomshardware.co.uk/forum/282651-32-best-diagnostic-testing-utility

If there's something wrong with any of those, you will need to back up the data stored over there and replace it.
If there are no abnormal values in the SMART data, then a clean OS install may help and improve your system's performance.
