do i need to ground myself when installing a gpu? Im just opening my case then pooping it into the pci-e. My floor is wooden

Solution
You must maintain constant contact with the GPU and PC to keep your energy potential at the same level as the the components and prevent static discharge. A grounding wrist strap makes this easier.

Static discharge is not always accompanied by a pop and shock. It can happen a low levels that are still damaging to electronics but are imperceptible to you.

Always make first contact with exposed metal away from ICs, connectors, or traces. IE the fan shroud (if metal) or the IO bracket (edge of the PCB is also acceptable but not preferred as there could be traces near the edge. Avoid contact with the fore mentioned while handling the device. When installing the GPU use a pinky or some other piece of exposed skin to make first contact...

Agree with the above. Just make sure to discharge any static electricity you might have built up.

Also, that typo
"pooping" the card in your case

A ground strap isn't very expensive and if you work with electronics fairly often they make a good investment.

That's my method. It's all about managing your potential energy and where you equalize that potential energy.

Best is to do it on a carpet with socks on :), lol i learned my lesson my first build by doing that.... Hahaha i fried everything, good thing i had a warranty on every part. took a week to get everything in the mail to actually build it on a desk grounded.

When grounding yourself on the case, you want to try and touch exposed metal, as the paint on the case could be insulating. Luckily I have a multi meter so I could measure what points on my case are grounded, found that the PSU mounting screws were the best place to touch for me.

Why unplug the PC? Better off just turning the PSU rocker switch to off. And what do you mean about holding a nail or car keys?
