Having never done it before, I'm looking to overclock my FX8320 as some newer games are looking at 3.5ghz as a minimum. I'm looking to push maybe 4-4.2ghz as i think 4.5 might be a bit much? Whats the best way to go about it and would it be worth it?
I have an ASUS M5A99FX PRO motherboard, kraken-x42, 8gb hyper-x ram, Radeon sapphire r9 290 tri-x

The main thing is to follow the guides, and take your time. Do not skip steps and make big jumps in clock speed.

Example:

Try 4ghz and stress test for two hours. Then try 4.2gh and stress for two hours. Once you get to where you want to be, stess test with several different programs for 8 hours each or one program for 24 hours. The more you test, the more insight you will have into how stable your system is.

Most overclocking stability issues are from lack of testing and too big of a jump. Assuming the system will be stable and just going for it.

Lastly, temperatures are big concern. You need to watch them and notice trends.

Yeah, from what i've read 4ghz should be very stable as im not pushing it too hard. One post i read said you shouldn't really have to do anything to the voltage and just do the multiplyer, but i dont know. I'll stick to the guides and see what happens. I dont really run anything in the background as its literally just a gaming PC so the only time temps go up is for that....currently idle at around 12 deg C maxing out around 25 under load.
