Here are my parts:

CPU -- 6700k
Mobo -- MSI H170I PRO AC (mini ITX)
RAM -- Crucial Ballistix 16gb (2x8gb) Sport LT
PSU -- CS550M Corsair 550 80W

  • - On the original build the board booted directly into a CPU red LED. So we took the CPU and put it into my computer rig and my computer booted fine with this new 6700k.

    - Then we put the CPU back into the new build, and swapped RAM. Still a red CPU light.
Finally we swapped the PSU, and then swapped everything (excluding the motherboard) still no dice.

    - We then RMA'd the board and received the 2nd board.

This time on bootup the board passed the CPU red LED, and then stopped on RAM red light. After reseating the RAM and booting again, the board was stuck on the CPU light instead of the RAM one.

Something I noticed in another thread with a similar motherboard series is that the board needs to be flashed for the bios to recognize the 6700k CPU. If that's the case I'll most likely end up taking it to the local tech shop.

Edit forgot to mention that the ram although being DDR4 was not on the compatibility list for the mobo. I plan on going home today after work and resetting the CMOS to see if that'll help.

Have you update the BIOS? That mobo needs a BIOS update to work with a K chip. The board does not support overclocking, and was designed for Skylake, so the K-series Kaby Lake chip needs te latest BIOS set, which was not flashed to all boards. You may have old drivers.

The good news is you can flash this particular board's BIOS without a compatible chip installed. Use the MSI software to walk you through it, and you'll be golden.

I own this board, and had the same issue, and the fix was easy and quick
