Hi,

I use 2 external drives on formatted exfat both windows 7 and mac latest version. They both have the same exact content, one of them is now out of space while the other has approx 300+ gig left.

I have plugged it into both the pc and the mac and emptied trash/recycle.
I have emptied ._trashes. and through cmdprompt recycle.bin by following other instructions.
I have tried cccleaner but it didn't help.
I have tried spacesniffer but its not showing me anything except for the content.

Can you please help me find where the missing 300gig on the 1 drive went?

Thank you!

I just checked it with Windirstat and it is giving me the same results and spacesniffer. It is showing my used space but not showing me the missin 300+ gig.

Yes, they are external drives so when they are plugged in I can view them.
They both say Healthy (primary partition) and show the same correct disk size.

But of course it doesn't show me where the missing 300+ space is on the one drive.

Sorry, I wasn't clear.

I mean... they both show the same amount of space available... its a 1.5tb hard drive. It shows approx 1.4 as total amount of space.
The drive I have the issue with has approx 25+ gig of free space left and the other has just under 300 gig of free space left. So yes it does show that there is a difference in the amount of free space available, yet I have the exact same content on them both, and I verified it more than once.

When I plug the drive with the missing space into spacesniffer and windirstat, it shows the 1.1 gig of content on the drive, but does not show the missing 300 gig.

I was really hoping to not have to spend money on this as these are not even my drives and that has a fee. Does anyone know of a free way to resolve this matter?

I tried it, but it shows the same as the others... all the files that I know about. None of these show any files that I am not aware of. They all show the 1.1 TB that I am aware of, nothing else, all the same content that I know about, all the same sizes that spacesniffer and windirstat show. Which is all the same size content that is one the other drive that still have 300 gig left, like this one should have.

Is there something else that could have caused this as none of these file directory programs find anything different than what I already know is there?

I mean if I don't know what's causing it the chances are likely that it will happen again right? So if there's a way to figure out what's happening that'd be far better.

I can't post a screen shot because I've already changed the content too much as I've had to rearrange things to make some space, so they are no longer identical, although the issue is still present.

No, I just copies the folders over.

From drive 1 (the problem drive) to drive 2 (the drive with the correct remaining space)
