Hello to all users of tomshardware.

I am thinking to turn my laptop into server (specs below) to store some music, pictures, documents and installing programs such as TS, Skype, Steam, etc on it and I have no idea which type of server should I use or how to setup things. As of course google is our best friend and there would be a bunch of guides out there so if there is any expert here for servers and they know how to do it please give me few advices what should I do and what to take care of.

Keep in mind I am using wired connection to internet (speed 30/10) and it is stable and constant so server would be online 24/7. I am currently running TS 3 server on my laptop and I rarely use it outside of my house.

Laptop specs:
APU: AMD A10-7300 1.9GHz with boost to 3.3GHz
RAM: 12GB
GPU: AMD R7 265M 2GB

Thanks all in advance

You could always just use RDC to log into the laptop and run programs through that. But as noted, many things will run slower.

For music or videos you don't even need to go that far. Just make sure Windows is set to "Private Network", make the computer discover-able on the network for sharing and your account has a password, then setup sharing on the folders containing the music/videos. Then go to your other computer and if the Windows settings are alike (Private Network and a password on the account), then just browse the network and either map the network drives or just go into them from there.
