Hi all,
I know a lot of people ask similar questions but this will be my first new computer build in 5 years and my timing looks to be right at the point of change in the industry.
As things stand, I would be looking to build the following system:
I already have a 1000W Cooler Master V1000 PSU which I intend to use, if that would be sensible (it's great currently and overkill I know).
It will be used for a mix of photography work, some gaming and flight simming.
My quandary is this: Ryzen is just around the corner and it looks like I may be able to get an 8 Core processor. I know we will need to wait for benchmarks but indications suggest it'll compete with the 6900k (is that right?). My question is more about whether I should wait and jump into a new architecture (AMD, boards, Ryzen) or stick with the known entity (Intel). I currently have a 6 core 3930k which has been helpful, particularly with the flight sim stuff I do. That's why I'm not sure about getting the 7700k or waiting for the potential Ryzen 8 core.
Similarly buying a GTX 1080 now may be the wrong timing. Am I right to think that a new GTX 1080Ti or 2080 may be around the corner? Would you think a 1080 now and then an upgrade next year to the new architecture would be best? Or what about the new AMD stuff...
I know a new build is always a potential "should I wait for X" situation but I genuinely feel that it's a time when there's a potential hard choice coming up and I'd be gutted to invest in a system that is either a) outdated quickly or b) possible to get for less money on a new architecture (AMD). I was lucky with my current system that it was future proofed pretty well. I see that being harder to achieve right now.
Advice greatly appreciated.
James
