Motherboard short after installing 212 evo

After 4 years, my stock intel fan wasn't cutting it, so I bought a 212 EVO and installed it. Upon plugging in the power cable and flipping the switch to the PSU, the fans all started spinning slowly and all LEDs started flashing. Keep in mind, this was without me even pressing the actual power button. So at this point, I'm pretty sure the motherboard is being shorted out. To test, I take all the components out of the case and try booting up. That worked fine, so I know all the components work, it just has something to do with how the motherboard sits in the case. I tried putting the motherboard in and checking the screws one by one to see which one could do it. I screwed them all in and it seemed to work fine, but then when I placed my GPU in the motherboard, the problem started happening again. I think the force of me pushing down on the motherboard caused the motherboard to touch something it shouldn't. I think it's possible that it's the nut that goes over the backplate of the cooler, because that is dangerously close to touching the back of the case. Would electrical tape over the hex nuts on the backplate be enough to fix it if this was the problem? Or is it more likely to be something else, like potentially a standoff? I don't think it's the standoffs because the computer has worked just fine without a problem for 4 years, but maybe I'm wrong.

Are you sure all of the stand offs are in place because the MBO should't flex that much? You can try to insulate the screws with tape, it's the easiest potential solution. But from my experience of installing numerous CPU coolers, that should never happen.

I am using 9 standoffs, all in the correct places (this build is 4 years old and I've never had this problem, so I'm doubtful that it's the standoffs).

Do you mean wrap the screws that go into the motherboard with tape? I'm going out to buy some electrical tape tonight so I could potentially do that. Also, it doesn't to flex too much, it's just that the problem didn't start happening again until I installed the graphics card which requires pushing with some force so I was guessing that's what happened.
