Gigabyte GA-Z170X-UD3
vs
Gigabyte GA-Z170X-Gaming 5

Which do you prefer?
please explain pros and cons
I want to learn thankie

Solution
Both boards are OK for the CPU you selected; it fits, and the chipset allows overclocking.

You can only use DDR4 memory on both boards, make sure it is NOT DDR3 or older.

Overclocking means increasing CPU frequency for faster operation. i5 6600k can be overclocked ("K" in the name suggests that is is unlocked, and allows overclocking). If you plan to do it, you will need a good CPU cooler. If you don't plan to do it, then you can get both a cheaper CPU (i5 6600 without K) and a cheaper motherboard (with H170 chipset or even H110).

Fan headers are fan connectors on the motherboard, used for connecting case fans. Some people like having multiple fans for maximum airflow and cooling, others don't. It does not really matter if you don't...
Both boards use the same chipset (Z170). That fact alone puts them in the same league feature-wise, with only differences being the number of various ports and connections they provide. They would both be equally suited for gaming or general use (the "Gaming" label in second board is a gimmick, and certainly does not mean that the board is better at gaming than others).

When choosing motherboards, you should choose according to the other components you intend to use:

- which processor model? (all CPUs only work with certain boards)
- do you intend to overclock? (requires certain chipsets)
- any additional cards? (mobo needs to have slots for them)
- max amount of memory and type of memory used
- any external connector requiremens? (i.e. you need 8 USB slots for various peripherals)
- any additional features of the mobo you like? (dual BIOS, more fan headers...)

-i5- 6600k
-OC yes maybe i need to learn first what is OC and what it Does and Should I OC
-nah just regular 2 sticks of ram and 1 GPU ( + 1 GPU in the future)
-max amount of memory ? type of memory ? whats that sorry consider me dumb i dont know hardwares
-not really .. 1 keyboard 1 mouse 1 speaker 1 headset 1 printer + few not important like flash drive and external HDD
-i dont know i only use bios for installing OS lol nothing more sorry what is fan headers ? (NEVER THOUGHT HARDWARES ARE SO COMPLICATED)

Y-Y

In any case, you cannot go wrong.

this is what on my list as of now ,, any ideas for improvement ?

x Tecware Titan USB3.0 Mid Tower Black

× Intel Core i5-6600K 3.50-3.90GHz Skylake

× Palit GTX 1060 Super Jetstream 6GB Gddr5

× GSkill Ripjaws V 16GB Dual DDR4 2400 CL15 (F4-2400C15D-16GVS)

× Samsung 850 Evo 250GB ssd

× Seasonic G-550 550W 80Plus Gold Modular Power Supply

× ID Cooling Frostflow 240L Liquid Cooling

× Gigabyte GA-Z170X-Gaming 5

x 1tb seagate hdd

Everything looks good, nice choices. I'd only change 1 thing: the CPU cooler. Liquid cooling is not required at all, especially not for inexperienced users, and not even for overclocking unless you want to push absolute maxiumum. It is harder to install and maintain, it is generally more expensive than air cooling, and it contains a pump which can be just as loud, if not louder than air cooler. Cleaning is also harder. If (when) it breaks, it leaks, and this can potentially ruin the entire rig.

Go with a quality air cooler like Cryorig H7.

the bigger the better ? or smaller ?

The bigger is usually the better - more material to absorb heat, and larger fans blow more air. However, you must take into account that some of the coolers won't physically fit into certain cases. Height is the most important factor, but some of them are also too wide or even block installation of RAM. The biggest ones are also very heavy. No need to go above the recommended one.

one more thing i read this on the noctua cooler description
Product Description

Socket compatibility: Intel LGA2011 (Square ILM), LGA1156, LGA1155, LGA1150 & AMD AM2, AM2+, AM3, AM3+, FM1, FM2, FM2+ (backplate required)

does this support my mobo socket is LGA 1151 ?
