I have a case fan that is busted that I want to replace. The replacement is ready, however, I'm still terrified to actually do it, due to the case fan's power cord being underneath the motherboard. I've instead considered just to snip the power cord of the case fan exclusively, so that I can remove it and put the new case fan in its place.

If I do this, are there other consequences? Is there something I should do, like isolate the snipped cable with ductape or something, since it would mean it'll be stuck there. I'm just too terrified to unscrew the motherboard, just to replace a case fan. I'm afraid I'll damage something, so I thought maybe simply snipping the cable of the case fan, would be a faster and safer work around.

Solution
Case fan most probably connects to MB plug so you can just snip it and unplug it from MB. Replace the fan and plug it in the same place. That way there's nothing left to insulate. Just make sure computer is unplugged from power.
