XFX R7 250 D-Sub Connector: Can I lengthen it?

Hi Tom's!
I'm trying to place the D-Sub connector where the spare holes for a DC power connector is on my case. However, I'm not sure how to lengthen the cable. Are there any extenders for this kind of B-Sub cable? It should be noted that I've no intention of upgrading this computer; it's already got an A10-7890K and an R7 250.

Not all pins are used in those connectors. However, in this case, as there is not much information available, I'd suggest you contact the GPU manufacturer (in this case XFX) and ask them for the proper accessory. My guess would be that even the one I showed you should work if you knew on which pins it should be connected to. There's not a risk of shorting anything as those don't carry high voltage, but your best bet would be asking XFX and avoid spending double.

You can also extend the cable yourself if you know how to solder, just go to radioshack and buy a flat ribbon cable. Or buy an old IDE cable (you might even have one around yourself). It's just a matter of cutting and joining both ends. Not very practical or quick, but would work just fine.

You would basically have to cut the cable that came with the card and then with a wire stripper cut off the plastic on both ends. Then just cut a piece of the IDE cable that's long enough for your purpose and do the same on each end. Finally, solder them together one wire at the time, like if you were just doing an extension of each of them. There's also "liquid tape" that you can get to avoid any shorts.

This picture shows how the stripped wires should look: http://biobug.org/lj/goggle-cam-blog/cut-ide-ribbon-cable.jpg

Also, each individual wire can be separated so you don't have to keep the extra unused wires from the IDE cable.
