I have just upgraded from a GTX 960 (4GB) to a GTX 1060 (3GB) and my benchmark scores have got worse even though I have the latest drivers. I use a program called novabench and my scores have dropped from around 1300 to 1100 :(

My temps are pretty much average and I have a 450w power supply but according to http://outervision.com/power-supply-calculator that reccomends 413w so I don't think that is the problem either :/

I favor benchmarks that allow you to compare your score to other people with the same setup. That's important, because people sometimes 'feel' they should get better performance but that's meaningless. What do your feelings have to do with it? Some people just compare one component, ie "My friend has the same card and he gets better performance" and that's meaningless since your friend could have a better computer overall.

Find out, using something like 3dmark, what other people with an 8320/1060 3gb combo are getting then you'll have a better idea if there's a problem or not. Ideally, before buying anything you would have looked at those scores to see what improvement, if any, you could expect.

Is it possible that for that benchmark it is a downgrade because of VRAM? Maybe the test gives better results more the VRAM available aka 4gb's before and now only 3gbs. Test other games you play actual games, With your old card right down the average fps the top fps etc then try out the new card and compare! Very easy to do :)

Also is it possible to get a full pcpartpicker list of your entire system?

I have an AMD FX 8320. It'll probably bottleneck it slightly but not this much :/

An AMD fx 8320 is a pretty budget CPU atm. I could see bottlenecking issues on that. As my brother has a 8350 and a 1060 6gb version and it bottlenecks like crazy doesn't do any better than a 1050. So you are more than likely going to be bottlenecking but that's absolutely no reason the scores go down. I'm going to stick with the VRAM issue like I said earlier. But overall I'd recommend upgrading out of the FX series soon. If you can.

I don't think I would trust a synthetic benchmark alone, particularly one you don't often see used in reviews. These benchmarks that score things in arbitrary "points" could be assigning points for any number of things. It also sounds like the score you are referring to is for a system-wide score rather than one specifically testing the GPU, so it could be affected by any number of things not related to the GPU.

As was mentioned before, check your frame-rates in actual games to see if they are higher.

At worst, I can see the 1060 3GB getting 960 performance off the same setup, not underperforming it... It should be at least a bit better. One of the first things to check is making sure the OP has the latest drivers too.

That was my thought. At that point you have to examine clock speeds of everything, and there's other components to consider. Some "similar" setups use different parts. I have a 1080 and have people blow me out of the water on "similar chips" theirs has a much higher oc and a completely different processor. If you mean exactly the same parts, then it's clock speeds. Usually it's rated by total frames generated. Background applications can reduce framerate slightly, therefore reducing overall frames produced, reducing scores.

I'm downloading 3D mark now :)
