Error message when turned on says battery may be counterfit -

Brand new Powershot SX720HS. When turned on it says "Battery communication error. Does this battery have a Canon logo?. Answer is yes, then it reads "battery may be counterfeit" and turns off. Please help

If it is "brand new", talk to whomever you bought it from.

I would contact the seller since it sounds as if they sold you a defective (or fake) battery. But, just out of curiosity what does it do if you say it does not have a Canon logo?
