Hi i just switched to a new cable company because they were offering fiber in my area.

They offered 500mbs rate, but only getting a steady 108.33 mbs. Speed test starts at 400mbs then falls down to 108mbs for majority of test.

Connection:

Computer ->Router->Modem->Coax->Fiber node.

My computers network board is spec'd to handle 1 Gbs.

Is there anything sort of settings i need to mess with like router or modem? I have tried a direct connect from modem to pc and still only 108.33 mbs. My friend was able to recieve 450 mbs so I know its not impossible here, just curious how and where I'm being throttled and if there is anything i can do.

Modem:

Motorola 16x4 Cable Modem, Model MB7420, 686 Mbps DOCSIS 3.0

Router:

TP-Link AC1200 Wireless Wi-Fi Gigabit Router (Archer C5)

Even though he lives on the same street it is no guarantee of similar speed (it should be, but it isn't). If he can have him bring his computer over and run the speed test again to see if it matches what he got at his place.
I would log into the modem and see what the signal levels are. You can see what the recommended levels are. One key thing to look at is the number of uncorrectable errors that is in that table. Mostly this would indicate that there is something wrong with the cabling to the ISP.

Not much else it can be unless you have something in the PC limiting the rate. Be sure you do not have any of that silly gamer accelerator network stuff on.

when you say your friend was able to do you mean he came over and plugged his computer into your setup and was able to achieve faster speeds?

Also on your computer did you check your network nic settings? Should be set to auto-negotiate so it will go as fast as it is allowed, will also show you what speed it is currently operating at.

He lives in the same neighborhood a few streets down with the same provider. gets about 400-450mbs.

I meant that my computers link speed/network adapter is capable of 1gbs. It is set to auto-negotiate.
