Should I upgrade my GPU or CPU first?

So I have a phenom X4 965, and a sapphire 7850,
Should I upgrade first the CPU or GPU? I'm thinking about buying a GTX 1060 mini with 3gb.

The problem is , it would be much more expensive to change the cpu+motherboard+ram than to change the GPU, so which one I should change first?

Also, would the 1060 increase of FPS be massive with a 1060, or it wouldn't be a big deal because of CPU bottleneck?

*games that don't need more than 3GB of VRAM.

Games that need a lot of VRAM right out of the gate are going to be trouble. Are there a lot of games right now that use more than 3GB of VRAM at 1080p? not really - but its on the horizon.

You also need to realize that Nvidia doesn't special make 3GB versions. They don't custom make a 10% gimped processor for the 1060 3GB - they are garbage bin processors. They didn't have the clusters to cut it as a GTX 1060, so they go in these things.

I don't like that kind of practice.

A 4GB RX 480 isn't a gimped version of an 8GB RX 480... its just a 4GB version.

I wasn't saying to go out and get an R9 390 - i'm saying that your Deneb should be able to handle a GTX 1060 without too much...
The Deneb is a pretty legendary processor. Do you have it OCd any?
It is starting to show its age for sure though. But it keeps up with a lot of the FX chips out there in regards to gaming.

I would not advise a 3GB version of the 1060.

I had an R9 390 in a Thuban rig and it was a really good fit, about the same performance wise.

I still think you should get a card with more than 3GB of VRAM.
