Approximate Purchase Date: this week
Budget Range: around 3K-3.5K AUD (2.5K USD)
System Usage from Most to Least Important: Gaming, streaming gameplay (e.g. to twitch) or uploading recorded gameplay (e.g. to YouTube), lower priority for surfing the web, documents/photos/movies
Are you buying a monitor: Yes
Parts to Upgrade: Complete new build
Do you need to buy OS: Yes
Preferred Website(s) for Parts: https://au.pcpartpicker.com/
Location: Melbourne, Victoria, Australia
Parts Preferences: Intel CPU, Nvidia video card
Overclocking: Maybe
SLI or Crossfire: Not at the moment
Your Monitor Resolution: 1920x1080 with high framerate support (purchasing new)
Additional Comments: Preferred quiet operation. A variety of games including first person shooters. Have looked at different approaches for game capture/streaming (capture cards, OBS/xSplit, video card) - am a bit concerned about the interoperability of Nvidia's G-sync with capture cards and capture software, so will be exploring this, however I'm guessing recording with Nvidia's shadow play to disk might prove the most reliable.
And Most Importantly, Why Are You Upgrading: The PC I built 8 years ago as a general home PC doesn't cut it for my teenage son's gaming/recording/streaming, so we're specing and building this together as a capable gaming platform for (hopefully) the next 5 years.
Here's our draft spec - note, prices will be in Australian dollars (unfortunately our exchange rate isn't as good as it was 5 years ago):
