So, I have a PC a built some years ago but it's really starting to fall behind and not able to run current games, I want to be able to run new games comfortably (Witcher 3, Mass Effect Andromeda, Battlefield 1 etc...), high settings with 45+fps is pretty ideal to me. I'm more concerned about bottlenecking since my CPU is pretty bad. Here are my specs:

GPU: GTX 6502gb
MotherBoard: Asus A88xm-a
PSU: CoolerMaster 600G
CPU: A-10 5700

If I need to upgrade my CPU I would, but is there really a worthy upgrade for a fm2+ socket? Changing the whole motherboard is a deal breaker for me.

I would upgrade the cpu, even if you are still going for that socket. You will get a good performance boost with the rx series, but the cpu is holding the true potential back. - Right now i have a a10 7870k with a rx 480, and i use that cpu only as a placeholder until zen, but the performance lacks a bit... forces me to sometimes go for medium or less in certain settings (when going for 60fps+ @ 1920x1080).

So it works, but i would not use a apu as more than a placeholder untill you get a better cpu... don't use it as a rig.

I think you could manage 45fps on most of those games with a 470. Those games can all use the performance of the 470, not that the CPU doesn't matter but I think you could be happy with it.

I would not upgrade that socket. So a new CPU really means new CPU/motherboard/ram to start, plus videocard.

you do, but there is nothing on that platform to upgrade to cpu wise

dont expect benchmark numbers from the rx 470
