Hi guys

I currently have 2x GTX 770 4gb OC Windforce running in SLI. I've used it for 4k gaming and triple screen setup (5760 x 1080) and it has served me well for a few years. I'm mainly play iRacing and Elite Dangerous and I used to be able to bump the settings up ultra and still get good frame rates but I've recently noticed it's starting to struggle lately with performance (could be some games don't like SLI also).

Anyway, I'm thinking of selling my 770 cards now (I could get about £160+ for each one on ebay) and using the money to upgrade to a 1x GTX 1080 setup. Apparently this will give me better performance. Does anyone have any thoughts on this and would anyone recommended this choice or should I wait for another better card to come out?

Any help you could give would be much appreciated.

Thanks!

For now, you are correct that going for a single GTX 1080 setup is a considerable upgrade from the GTX 770 SLI you currently have. But if I were you, if you can, I would hold off for a while and wait until the release of the GTX 1080Ti in, possibly, early March. Wait for the Ti's benchmarks and reviews a couple more weeks and it will be the best time to purchase then. Two things can happen: The 1080Ti's would be a better price/performance compared to the 1080 and you can buy that; and/or the prices of the 1080 will go down and you can also purchase it for a lesser price with a better performance than your current 770s.

CPU = Intel Core i7 4790K S 1150 Haswell
RAM = 8GB
I don't have an SSD. I'm using an HDD.

EDIT:
i7 4790k is overclocked to 4.6 Ghz
