is the different between the two vast when not gaming ? , I really hate slow pc'es and can't imagine myself using a computer on daily basis that doesn't have ssd or for instance dual core if it was a desktop but well about this i7 7500u with hyper threading ... is the different really noticeable at tasks such as transferring files, using the web , compiling code ,or just opening some normal programs ? or like using skype, with youtube playing, compiling some code and some other program don't tell me it may struggle doing such a thing or I may notice a difference between doing that between the two cpus ?

Bingo, then you are exactly the user the U series is designed for.

According to Ultrabookreview the older series i7 5500U is 5-15% faster under heavy loads compared to the i5 5200U but will use 5-10% more battery in general. So for you I would potentially recommend the i5 7200U as the situation is likely to be the same. A small increase in performance for a relevant hit in the battery compartment. Though the i7 version does seem to have a reasonable amount more cache, swings and roundabouts.

I have a 6700hq in my...

For that level of usage, feel free to drop down a few notches even. i3-6100u is probably enough for the tasks listed.

I would consider the i7-6700HQ if you are gaming, and it has a decent discrete GPU paired with it, or intend to use the laptop as a desktop replacement.

True. Though when I was a casual laptop users back a few years ago, having the extra turbo did speed things up, specifically when your opening up several tabs at once, or just run a lot of browser tabs overall.

But either way, I agree that a SSD would help significantly more than pure CPU power for the casual user.

6700hq - 4 cores 8 threads 2.6-3.5ghz

7500u - 2 cores 4 threads 2.7-3.5ghz

No brainer to me.. why would anyone go for the U series unless all they care about is battery life.

Obviously the 6700HQ performs better, that's not the question. A laptop with that CPU will almost certainly cost a fair bit more, and the question is whether or not it's worth if for the kind of tasks the OP described.

Well the money is not an issue for me but crumpet is right the only reason im considering the U is for the battery life , I couldn't find a laptop with hq that can last me a good 6 hours at normal usage(not gaming)

Battery life depends on a lot more than just the CPU. But yes, I imagine laptops with a U CPU should have longer battery life on average. But you'd have to look at individual reviews to see which ones actually last long on battery. There should be plenty of sites out there that have ranked lists of laptops by battery life.

Well mostly battery life depend on three things .. the battery capacity itself and the gpu and cpu power usage , most if not all hq cpu come with a decent gpu and therefore both consume alot of power that even with a good battery capacity it doesn't last alot , at least that what I saw in most reviews ..

I have a 6700hq in my laptop that I use for portable 3d design and photoshop/illustrator work and it is dead within about 2 hours. Maybe less.

well I don't guess I will compromise as much to go for i5 , since as i mentioned before I hate slow computers , and I don't want the computer to feel laggy and slow or struggle to keep up with every day tasks , i prefer to go with a perfect laptop than can last me 4 hours than a medium one that lasts me 6

I'm kind of going through the same thing trying to determine which way to go with 7500u, 6300hq or 6700hq. Just curious have you determined for certain which you are going with between the two?
Looks to me my username is on your question? Not sure what is going on here. I'm new at this.

I have decided to go with U since I will need the extra battery life and will not be using it for really heavy tasks , other wise u shall go with the hq

Check out the i7 7567u. It's a dual core and appears to be better than the i7 7500u. It came out about the same time as the 7500u. Apparently it comes in 28W or 15W. I can't find it in any laptop anywhere though.
