Guessing this would have been asked a million times before, but what would be the best CPU to upgrade to? (price to performance)

My system currently consists of:
-AMD A6-5400k
-16GB RAM
-NVIDIA GeForce GTX 750 Ti

I currently play League of Legends and World of Warcraft but I would like to play other titles, like racing games. I am also a student so do not have a large amount of money to spend. I was looking at swapping over to intel, so would ideally like to keep the memory (save money) and sell the motherboard and AMD chip.

You're gonna have to give up the RAM as well.

Any valid upgrade will require a new motherboard, CPU and DDR 4 RAM.

Wait a few weeks till Ryzen drops and we get actual benchmarks and pricing.

At that point give us a budget and we can give you a much better answer.

Like the other posters in answer to your questions, you are better off holding off on buying a new system for two or three weeks as of today.

Because of the new Amd Ryzen cpu line up release date in March Silent storm.
You will end up with a much better system at a good price if the pricing of Amd Ryzen cpus and there leaked costing figures are true.

Also it will, or should force the pricing down of Intel based cpu`s with a bit of luck meaning you will save money if you go the Intel cpu way.

Intel 7th gen chips and 270 chipset are the only ones currently that can do 4kNetflix. I think AMD will have something similar to compete in the 4k video space.

The new Ryzen SYSTEMS coming out in March will be more affordable than the comparable Intel system. I would go for that upgrade, and if your system is in good shape, you may want to put it for sale on Kigiji or Ebay. Selling a working system to purchase a new system will help with your getting a better system for your budget.

According to the information released today the cheapest AT LAUNCH Ryzen will be $329. They are only releasing 3 CPU's, One at $ 329 one at 399 and one at $499. That essentially ends the budget builders waiting for Ryzen in March.
