Hey all, a few years ago, I built a computer for gaming (it had 512mb gpu, if that tells you how long). Well after divorce and child support I haven't turned it on for a couple years. I recently tried and I think my gpu is dead. Anyways, I still don't have a ton of money, so I'm thinking of trying to save some by using the motherboard and my existing case and buying other parts, wondering if you think it's worth it, or possible. I don't play FPS games, I'm not all that interested in 4k or VR currently. I favor gameplay/story over graphics. ex: skyrim, tropico series, age of wonders 3, WOW back in the day. grim dawn.

So my specs. Case:http://www.tigerdirect.com/applications/SearchTools/item-details.asp?EdpNo=7328068 Has a 450w Psu. keep or change that?

MOBO:https://us.msi.com/Motherboard/H61MP23_B3.html#hero-specification
I know its older, memory is slower etc.

I'd use my same 500gb HDD drive. (ive been out of the game for a while so I'm unsure about SSD)

I'd like to spend $600 or less. I was thinking ahttp://www.bestbuy.com/site/intel-core-i5-6500-3-2ghz-processor-silver/4712006.p?skuId=4712006 for cpu

http://www.bestbuy.com/site/evga-nvidia-geforce-gtx-1050-ti-4gb-gddr5-pci-express-3-0-graphics-card/5668600.p?skuId=5668600
or

so any comments or ideas are appreciated. If this isn't even possible or worth it, give it to me straight. I'm getting back into pc gaming, kids are older now, 10/12, so something for me, they can have the consoles. :)

So in theory you should be able to reuse your motherboard, assuming it isn't the cause of the problem:

PCPartPicker part list / Price breakdown by merchant

CPU: Intel Core i7-2600 3.4GHz Quad-Core Processor ($286.46 @ Amazon)
CPU Cooler: CRYORIG C7 40.5 CFM CPU Cooler ($29.88 @ OutletPC)
Motherboard: MSI H61M-P23 (B3) Micro ATX LGA1155 Motherboard
Memory: Patriot Signature 8GB (2 x 4GB) DDR3-1333 Memory ($44.36 @ Amazon) (there isn't huge benefit to the faster DDR3 ram out there for gaming)
Storage: ADATA Premier SP550 240GB 2.5" Solid State Drive ($72.99 @ NCIX US) (install your OS and favorite games here)
Storage: Western Digital...
Mobo is incompatible with your new CPU, So is your RAM.
The 470 is the better GPU. By a lot more than just it's price difference.

You don't say what CPU you have currently though.

It's got a higher power requirement though than the 1050ti. that may very well be a deal breaker with your garbage tier PSU. (Because it was included in the case it's garbage tier)

I couldn't find out what it was. Couldn't get any display up, and I couldn't read the numbers to figure it out either. old and bad eye sight I guess. Psu is trash, that's good to know, thank you. I'll replace that. So finding a compatible cpu with my mobo, is it worth it, or just do a complete new system?

This is a pretty solid build for Skyrim, Tropico, Age of Wonders and WOW

Reusing the case and mobo you should have a competent light gaming system. It should be able to RUN any modern game, but the fancier ones will be on low, settings and the older ones will be on like max settings.

It should all fit fine in your case as well as it's just a standard microatx form factor.

This is assuming your motherboard works.
