My PC Blue Screens, then Suddenly Shuts Off (Update: Now It's Just A Blue Screen)

This problem has been occurring since Tuesday (Feb. 14). However, I think the problem started earlier.

About a couple of weeks ago, I upgraded to the Gigabyte GTX 1060 6GB graphics card. My previous graphics card was the Galaxy GTX 560 1GB that I had for almost 5 years. The upgrade was a success and it was working fine.

However, problems began on Friday (Feb. 10) when my PC wouldn't shut down for some reason. So I went to bed, thinking it was just taking a while to shut down.

When I woke up the next day (Saturday, Feb. 11), the PC was still on. So I had to press the power button to force it to shut down (actually, I think I turned it back on and everything was ok. I don't quite remember). I had to leave for the day.

When I came back and turned on my PC, it started having issues. Suddenly, it would blue screen on me in the middle of the Windows startup screen. I had to manually shut it down again.

I waited a while, and it started working again. Everything was normal. I browsed, gamed, did everything.

However, hours later, the "Windows theme" on my desktop would suddenly change to the default generic look instead of the Aero look. Not only that, but my PC started making a loud engine-like noise as well as a tiny "ticking" sound every few seconds or so. This problem would continue until Tuesday, but outside of that, everything was working just fine.

Then comes Tuesday morning. I turn on my PC and suddenly, it shuts off. So I unplugged and replugged the power connector to the motherboard, wondering if that was the issue again.

Turned on my PC again and it started to Blue Screen in the middle of the Windows startup again. Then, it would suddenly shut off.

After unplugging and replugging all of my other power connectors to the motherboard (GPU, CPU, RAM, Hard Drive), I booted it up again. This time, it looked like everything was working fine at first. Windows startup, welcome screen, desktop...then another blue screen and power down.

I thought this was an issue with my GPU, so I took it out and started using the integrated GPU on the motherboard. And it started working a little bit better: Windows startup, welcome screen, desktop, everything seemed normal.

However, now I would get a blue screen if there's a lot of things loading on the screen. For example, if I'm browsing YouTube or Facebook and a lot of things are loading, the PC would start to slow down...then the screen goes temporarily black...then a blue screen and then shut down.

Now of course the PC should be slower with the integrated graphics, but THIS slow? And then a blue screen after that?

Long story short, I'm able to use my PC to some capacity. I just can't load too much.

I've tried playing the basic Windows games like Solitaire and Minesweeper, but I'm worried that anything demanding I do would cause my PC to blue screen again.

Here's what the blue screen says:

http://i.imgur.com/k1pTXll.jpg

It starts with "STOP: 0x00000124" then a whole bunch of other numbers, then it says something about "crash dump" or "disk dump".

And here are my PC specs (as of February 2017):
Case: NZXT Gamma
Motherboard: ASRock B75M-DGS
CPU: Intel Core i5-3570 - 3.4GHz
GPU: GIGABYTE NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1060 - 6GB
RAM: 8GB DDR3 1600MHz (Team Group Xtreem Dark 4GB + Kingston Hyper X Blu 4GB)
PSU: XFX TS Series 550W (Non-Modular)
OS: Windows 7 Professional - 64-bit
Storage (Internal): Seagate ST35000414CS 3.5" HDD - 500 GB
Storage (External): Seagate Expansion Drive USB 3.0 - 1TB

Mind you, I've had this PC for almost 5 years (since December 2012). I added an extra 4GB of RAM immediately after getting this PC, upgraded the CPU in May 2014, upgraded the power supply in August 2016, and upgraded the GPU this month. All the other PC parts (minus the external drive) have been there since 2012.

As for how much space I have on my internal drive, there's about 230 GB of free space left.

What do you think could be the issue?

I've never overclocked my CPU. I don't think it's overheating. I checked CPU-Z and this is what it says about my CPU.

Last I checked, my BIOS was up to date, but I'll check again to make sure.

While both RAM sticks are are from different brands, they're the same type, have the same speed, and have the same amount of GB. I've had them for nearly 5 years and they've worked like a charm. Played a lot of PC games with them. Edited and rendered videos in 1080p 60fps. Wasn't having problems until Tuesday.

It WAS crashing during startup when I had my GPU installed, but now it's not and I'm using my PC's integrated GPU on the motherboard. Everything boots up normally, but now it blue screens when there's a lot of loading (i.e. browsing on YouTube/Facebook/Twitter/etc. after long periods of time, or watching an HD video file).

run memtest 86 for a whole night.
check your HDD for smart errors using brand spesific tools, or any other free tool.
The fact that without GPU is not crushing so much, may not be as related as you think...

Bad news. When I ran Memtest86, my PC shut off in the middle of it. No blue screen, just shut down. The spinning line next to the "WWW" froze and it only goes to 6% in "Pass" and 40-55% in "Test". I did this twice.

Here's the first time it froze before shutting down:

And here's the second time:

I should also point out that a similar problem happened when I was navigating the BIOS menu. It suddenly froze and then shut down.

But for whatever reason, when I boot to Windows normally, it works fine until I browse remotely demanding websites (i.e. YouTube or videos on Facebook), then it would blue screen and then shut down. But if I boot my PC with my graphics card, it will blue screen as soon as the desktop appears and then shuts down.

I'm gonna try checking my HDD as well. If that test passes, there's a good chance it might be the RAM. What free programs do you recommend for checking your HDD for errors?

So I did some cleaning on the fans as well as the CPU cooler. There was a lot of dust, so maybe that was causing the issue.

Unfortunately, the problems are more or less the same.

I used SeaTools from Seagate to test my HDD (since it's a Seagate brand) and the test failed twice. I tried the Long test and the Fast test. The Long test stopped at 60% and failed. The Fast test completed at 100%. However, it still read as fail.

Here are the results for Fast:

Memtest86 still doesn't work. My PC shuts off in the middle of the test. It stops at around 40-55%.

At this point, I'm just not sure what's causing this blue screen-shut down problem. Is it the HDD, the CPU, or the RAM? Certainly can't be the GPU (GTX 1060) since the same problem happens even on integrated graphics. Can't be the power supply either since it's 550W and I've had it since August.

And that brings me to another problem.

For whatever reason, I can't seem to find the dmp files on my PC. The "C:\Windows\Minidump" folder is empty. Maybe they're not being written for some reason? I checked for every possible solution, but nothing helps. I even checked here:

https://answers.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/wiki/windows_10-update/bsod-finding-and-fixing-them/1939df35-283f-4830-a4dd-e95ee5d8669d

And that didn't help either.

I even tried BlueScreenView, but that doesn't show anything either.

Here's my Startup and Recovery Settings:

I really wanna know what's causing this blue screen-power down issue before I take the plunge and buy new parts. I want to be absolutely certain, but nothing is working. Help please!

UPDATE: So I left my PC off for over 24 hours, reinstalled my graphics card, and now instead of a blue screen and shut down, it just stays at the blue screen.

What haopened was that I pretty much didn't do anything except play an .mp3 file for a bit. At the same time, I was checking my Task Manager.

After I stopped playing the music, the CPU Usage was at 49% while the RAM was at over 2GB of Usage. Then came the blue screen.

Maybe now it'll save the .dmp file.

But in case that doesn't happen, here's a screenshot of the blue screen.

Could it be CPU heat sink issues?

Well it turns out that the BIOS wasn't updated. So I downloaded the update and...things got much worse.

In the middle of the update right when it was about to finish, my PC randomly shut off again. So I turned it back on, hoping it would continue, and now nothing is displaying. Whether it's on the integrated GPU or on my graphics card, NOTHING displays. I tried resetting the CMOS and it's still the same issue.

This is horrible. Looks like I'm gonna have to take the plunge and buy a new motherboard, new CPU, and new RAM.
